“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20

The Youth at First Presbyterian

Mike Haberkorn, Youth Director

The Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church exists to foster devotion, discipleship, and missions in the lives of students. We believe that only when students love God and abide in Christ will they be able to follow him and share the gospel with others. Every aspect of our ministry focuses on how to grow in our relationships with God and with each other. We understand that the middle school and high school years can be some of the most pivotal in a person’s life. Therefore, we address real-life issues by studying God’s Word and living in fellowship with one another. Come be a part of our youth ministry and experience the love of God and the love of His people!

More about Mike

Born in Topeka, the capital of the great state of Kansas, in 1984, my education ( kindergarten through high school) was at  Cair Paravel-Latin, a private Christian School. Then, at Kansas State University, I heard God’s call to go to seminary to study to be a pastor. I moved to Dallas in 2007 to attend Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated in 2012 with a Masters of Theology degree. My first day in Dallas, I met my future wife, Mary, although it took me a few months to figure out that she was the one. (I am apparently a bit slow.) We were married in December 2008 and began attending Park Cities Presbyterian Church (PCPC). Mary and I both worked as middle school interns at PCPC until I became the Middle School Director in 2010. An opportunity arose early 2015 for me to accept the position of Youth Director at First Presbyterian Church allowing us to move to Chattanooga. Since we have been here, we have been so encouraged by this church and by working with the students. God has blessed me greatly with the calling to lead the Youth at First Presbyterian Church and I look forward to all that God has in store for this ministry!

Jessica Hart, Assistant Youth Director

More about Jessica (click)

Having moved to Tennessee from Illinois when she was just six years old, Jessica considers herself a native to the Chattanooga area. She grew up in Birchwood but has enjoyed living closer to downtown since college. While growing up, Jessica was plugged in at a local church and made a profession of faith when she was 8 years old. She has been growing in her relationship with the Lord, by his grace alone, ever since. While she was in college, she worked as a waitress and served part time on the worship team at Christ Reformed Church in Hixson. She was also involved with a college ministry called Cru, which is where she was discipled and where the Lord continued to grow her heart for ministry. She graduated in December of 2015 from UT Chattanooga with a degree in Child and Family Studies and a minor in Psychology. Her interests include spending time with her friends, cooking, pinning things on Pinterest that she usually never actually attempts, and getting to know new people. Since becoming full time with FPC in July of 2015, Jessica has loved getting to know the middle and high school girls as well as other member of the church. She loves her job and is excited to be a part of what the Lord is doing at First Presbyterian!

First Presbyterian Church operates a “retreat,” Camp Vesper Point, on Lake Chickmauga in Soddy Daisy, TN – about 40 minutes north of downtown Chattanooga. It’s a great place for youth gatherings on the lake and  for families staying in the rustic cabins together. The church has several annual activities for youth and families at the lake.

You are welcome to take a tour. See contact information on the website.
