“You Want Me To Do What? Get Off Your Blessed Assurance and Do Something”
by Michael Youssef, PhD
Dr. Michael Youssef is the founding pastor of The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. Dr. Youssef was born in Egypt and lived in Lebanon and Australia before becoming an American citizen in 1984.
Youssef examines the life of Joshua to inspire Christians to meet the challenges that God calls us to face. The author reminds us that just like Joshua, God equips us to finish the tasks assigned to us. Youssef reminds us that God can often use strange and unexpected methods to use ordinary people to do great things.
Each chapter is framed in the form of a question such as “You want me to step up?” and “You want me to go into enemy territory?” Following the question is a careful exegesis of the life of Joshua as a model for Christian obedience. Youssef reminds us that the Bible heroes we view as “fearless” were actually shaking in their sandals, riddled with questions and doubts. Yet somehow they follow God, carry out his mission, and are used by Him in mighty ways.
This book is well-organized, readable, and inspiring. Read it straight through or a chapter a day as a devotional. You Want Me To Do What? promises to mobilize, energize, and motorize the Christian life.
